{"id":78,"date":"2013-02-25T20:44:33","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T20:44:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mrmclaughlin.com\/web\/?p=78"},"modified":"2022-11-21T20:54:34","modified_gmt":"2022-11-21T20:54:34","slug":"teach-2033should-all-curriculum-follow-the-ap-audit-model-2-25-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrmclaughlin.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/25\/teach-2033should-all-curriculum-follow-the-ap-audit-model-2-25-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Teach 2033:Should all Curriculum Follow the AP Audit Model 2\/25\/2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently presented my GURU\u00a0presentation\u00a0to the\u00a0committee\u00a0and invited them and now I am inviting you to start a conversation with me. \u00a0So this is the beginning of my Teach 2033 blog series. \u00a0The Big Question is how are we are going to prepare our students to live in the year 2033. \u00a0At the bottom of this post you will see a video describing the context of the conversation we are hopefully about to have.<\/p>\n<p>The first guiding question I would like to deal with is \u201cShould all curriculum follow the AP audit model?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you are not\u00a0familiar\u00a0with the AP Audit model it is as follows: \u00a0For each instructor of an AP course there must be a submitted curriculum for that course on file with ETS. \u00a0Even if more than one person is teaching it in the same school each person needs their own curriculum document. \u00a0I come from a small school district so I write a lot of curriculum. \u00a0I have also had the opportunity to write some curriculum for other organizations. \u00a0I found that through those writing experiences I think a lot about what I teach. \u00a0On the opposite side of the fence I taught a course this year using someone else\u2019s curriculum. \u00a0(Including their materials and study guides \u2026course in a box) \u00a0It resulted from the need to have 4 different preps this year and a lack of time to prepare them all myself over the summer. \u00a0I have found at several points\u00a0throughout\u00a0the year I have been wishing I had the chance to do the course differently. \u00a0There are just some things that I like to present using methods other than the curriculum provided to me suggested. \u00a0Unfortunately\u00a0with time being a premium this year (I also am happy to have a 6 month old) I was not able to go through the whole curriculum and adjust it to what I thought was best. \u00a0Should it be that each teacher has the time (I know pie in the sky) to write the curriculum for their own course and have it approved by a larger body like the department they teach in? \u00a0In some cases our curriculum is 5 and 7 years old or even older and gets updated by teachers who teach the course but never gets written in a document. \u00a0Should curriculum\u00a0renewal\u00a0occur\u00a0every time\u00a0a teacher teaches a new course?
