Say Not in Grief: When a student leaves us. 03/26/2013

It is with a sad heart that I write this post. Last night a brave and strong student died from a long battle with illness.  Robert was one of the strongest people I have ever met.  Over his two year battle he never once said I can’t do that with respect to anything.  Robert continued to go to school even when we were all in awe of how he physically could.  It was just last week that he was doing his best to raise his hand to communicate his answers. He is the definition of determination and Grit.  He will be missed and remembered.

As a teacher this is the hardest part of our job.  Anyone who has lost a student knows this.  I am providing the following resource because sometimes you just need some help on a hard day like this.  Sadly it has helped me in the past and I hope it will help me again today.  http://www.scholastic.com/childrenandgrief/ Please keep Robert and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
